Name: Docker Offshore: Smoothing the Waves of Remote-Location MLOps

Date/time: Thursday, October 5, 2023, 2:30 PM - 3:15 PM Pacific Time

Description:

Machine learning and computer vision are transformative technologies with the potential to change the day-to-day operations of businesses and individuals and to enable new, previously impossible solutions to existing problems. However, these innovations cannot have any effect unless they are deployed in the real world. Sometimes, they must be deployed in places that are hostile, unfamiliar, disconnected from the outside world, or all three. We tested a pilot system for monitoring wildlife activity in offshore wind farms where physical access is severely limited and internet connectivity may not exist at all; this pilot study demonstrated that containerization technologies such as Docker have great potential to help MLOps be successful in these regions.
